Short Thought: I'm Tired of Waiting for a New 3D Mario Game

I love platforming games; there are very few platforming titles I've played that I haven't replayed and finished once again. Between the many times I've finished Ori and the Blind Forest, the four times I've passed Hollow Knight, and the dozen or so times I've completed numerous Mario games, it's easy to say that the platformer genre is my favourite.

So naturally, when Super Mario Odyssey was released, I played it, loved it, replayed it, watched other people play it, demanded my wife play it, and fought with her for years for her to play it... And although I was disgusted by the shift from stars to moons, I know the location of a lot of them by memory (I can't say most because there are 800+) and I've played the game over and over again. The problem is that, at this point, I've played it too many times. Super Mario Odyssey became my Super Mario 64 because I'd played the latter one too many times. And now, five years after its release, I'm impatiently waiting for the next "Super Mario Odyssey" that I'll get addicted to.

It's been 1,714 days (at the time of writing) since the release of Super Mario Odyssey, and — quite frankly — I'm tired of waiting for a new one. Although Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury was released, I can't find it in me to count it as a new game; I hated Super Super Mario 3D World the last time I tried to play it.

I'm sad to see how the 3D platformer genre has dwindled throughout the years; before, it felt like every game was a 3D platformer (one needn't look any further than Banjo-Kazooie), but now, platformers have become an uncommon genre. To remedy this I'm gonna try a new approach: I'm going to play every platforming game I can get my hands on; beggars can't be choosers, after all! From A Hat in Time (because I want an excuse to replay it), Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair (because I loved the original), to — hopefully — the upcoming Hell Pie. I'm dead set on getting my platformer fix, and I'll get it wherever I can!
